Where is your focus? Is it on the storm? It’s easy to become distracted. So many things can can draw our attention away from where it should be. The television, especially the news. The stock market plunging. Our financial stability and work life. Our health, are we going to contract this virus? Our thoughts, worries, and anxieties… do you see where I’m going with this? We can become fixated on what is happening around us. I want to encourage you not to stay stuck with your eyes focused on the storm but instead on Jesus.
When our eyes are on the storm, we become fearful. This is exactly what Satan wants. He wants you to be distracted. He wants to create fear and panic. He is the master of disguise. With fear comes worry. Worry gives way to anxiety. Anxiety creates doubt and negative thoughts. You start to question God and why He is letting this happen? It becomes all about… “Me.” When you become focused on yourself it can be distructful. You can become stuck. Fear brings confusion. When your confused you can’t think right. You can’t come up with ideas of how to fix things or you feel you’ve lost control.
The whole thing is we are not in control. This is something that cannot be controlled so you need to stop trying to take control. You are in control of one thing only… yourself. You can’t control what is happening around you. You can’t control others. You can control how you are going to react. If you are going to panic or stay calm. You can control your attitude. Whether or not you are going to feed those negative thoughts or replace them with positive ones. Instead of saying, I’m stuck at home. You can say, “I’m home. I have food. I have a roof over my head. I have clothes. I am safe.” Do you see where I’m going with this? Focus on what you do have, your blessings. When you look at your blessings you become filled with gratitude. I have a loving spouse. I have a family who loves me. I have a few friends that care about me. I have a nice comfortable place to live. My dog loves me. See what I mean? Focus on the positive things. They are what matters.
Sometimes we need to shift our focus. It’s not all about us. Truthfully, it’s all about God. Do not forget that He is in control. Everything is in His divine order. So why are you so full of fear? Perfect love casts out fear. Cast your cares and anxieties upon the Lord because He cares for you. Be anxious in nothing but instead give it to God in prayer. God knows what you need. Prayer is our greatest weapon. It’s a melody and joyful noise to the Lord. He loves to hear from you. He wants your attention. If your attention is on the storm then you cannot see Him. We can only be focused on one thing at a time. God loves you. His love is an agape love that has no strings attached. It has no conditions to it. Isaiah 43:1 says: “Now this is what the Lord says, He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine!” You are God’s and no one can remove you from His hands. 1 John 4:4 – “You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” You are God’s precious child. God is greater than anything in this world because Jesus has overcome. This Easter remember that Jesus has risen. He is sitting at the right hand of the Father.
We need to ask God, “What do you want me to learn from this? Instead of, “Why are you letting this happen?” You need to have some Faith. Faith is trust in God. Trust that He knows what He is doing. He can take care of you. He has all the power. He is still on the throne. God has taken care of you so far. I’m sure He has done a good job. He is a good good Father. Matthew 10:31 – “Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” God provides for the sparrow. They have what they need each day. They have food, shelter, and what they need. You are so much more valuable then a sparrow, don’t you think if God can take care of them that He is faithful to take care of you? Of course He can. God can do anything He wants to. Nothing can stop Him.
Sometimes things happen to bring about a revival. To bring you back to God. He wants you to focus on Him and what He can do. I want to share another verse with you. Isaiah 43:10-12 – “You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be none after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed – I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, that I am God.” Yes, God has chosen you. He has saved you. He lives among us and inside of us. God is always with us. We know Him and understand that He is God. We are His witness that He exists. He proves that He is the only God. We need to “Believe.” This whole virus maybe just to bring about a revival of God’s chosen people to see His glory. To bring His people back to Him. Shift their focus onto God instead of things of this world like money, our careers, our stock markets, etc. These things can cause stumbling blocks. We become so caught up with things of this world that we stop focusing on God as our central focus. Our main focus. We forget who the Creator is and what He is capable of doing. We become focused on less important things.
When you have God, you have everything you need. In Philippians 4:19 it states that “God will supply every need of yours.” He takes care of those who follow Him. You are chosen. You are redeemed. You are His child. Everyone knows John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” You are loved. He promises you life with Him forever. Is God not enough for you? II Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God is strong. He will not fail you. The best thing you can do right now is to turn to His Word. Read the Bible. You will find everything you need. All the answers to life’s questions. Here are a few more verses to remind you. Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Finally, Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God is our only hope. He is our future. Fix your eyes upon the Lord. Stop trying to be God and take control. “Be still and know I am God” – Psalm 46:10. Need I say anymore?…
